Love is what marks a community of faith

12 June 2020

If the twelve disciples (Jesus’ closest friends on earth) experienced broken fellowship, then we should not wonder that we can face challenges of our own in the pursuit of community.

In John chapter 13, Jesus tells His disciples that there are two of them who will either betray or deny Him. Even after saying this, He still offers bread and wine, His body and blood, and washes the very feet of those who would turn their backs on Him.

Later that night, Jesus gives a radical directive to His followers:

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13: 34-35)

According to Jesus, it’s not an amazing church building or impressive preaching or moving music that marks a community of faith, it’s love among believers. May we be that love.

God Bless
