God’s Mission, Our Mission – S is for Sent

The disciples had been ‘sent’ by Jesus on a couple of occasions throughout their time with Him. Each occasion was an exercise for them to learn from and through. When Jesus sent them the last time however, they had graduated and it was time to put into practice all they had learnt. In the end though, they didn’t really ‘go into all the world’ until persecution broke out; a bit like Jonah who didn’t go to Ninevah until he’d been in a whale for 3 days thinking about it. All the while though, both Jonah and the disciples fit the definition of ‘Missio’ the word we translate as sent.
