His eye is on the sparrow

Hello KawanaLife,

It will be great to be with you this incredible Sunday morning. If you are with us in real life this week, you will notice everything is different. I hope you get to enjoy it.

In my devotions this week I was reintroduced to a classic old song:

Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come,
Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heav’n and home;
When Jesus is my portion, My constant Friend is He.
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
I sing because I’m happy, and I sing because I’m free.
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He cares for me.

(Civilla D. Martin, 1905)

I wonder how many of you started singing it? It truly is a great song. In many of the Psalms, we can see its truth:

Lord, you are my portion
and my cup of blessing;
you hold my future.
The boundary lines have fallen for me
in pleasant places;
indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.

I will bless the Lord who counsels me —
even at night when my thoughts trouble me.
I always let the Lord guide me.
Because he is at my right hand,
I will not be shaken.

Therefore my heart is glad
and my whole being rejoices;
my body also rests securely.

Psalms 16:5-9 CSB

and

My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart,
my portion forever.

Psalms 73:26 CSB

Today, I pray that God is the strength of your heart and your portion.
