Church leaders

Calling someone to a role or position in a church or a movement is nothing to be flippant about. Take a few minutes to think about what qualities you think a Pastor, or leader in the church, should have.

What did you come up with? Did it look anything like this:

• a degree in theology
• 10 years experience following Jesus
• a leader of people
• a doer, not just a hearer
• a brilliant preacher
• faster than a speeding bullet
• able to leap buildings in a single bound

(oops, sorry, got carried away there!)

In Acts chapter 6 we have such a list. Are you ready… “who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom” (verse 3b). Not a very long list, but out comes a man named Stephen. He probably has one of the shortest ministries, and he becomes the first martyr, but what a man!

My prayer for you and I today is that we would be known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom.
