Get Ready, Get Set, Go

‘Therefore, with your minds ready for action; be sober minded and set your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.’ 1 Peter 1:13 (CSB)

Peter begins this section with the word ‘Therefore …’ As all good English experts know, this points us back to what we have read, and will now expand. What he is referring to lays the groundwork for his present call to action and it’s clear from the context that he’s referring to the great salvation discussed in verses 2-12: ‘sanctifying work’ (1:2), ‘sprinkling by his blood’ (1:2), ‘great mercy’ (1:3), ‘new birth’ (1:3), ‘inheritance’ (1:4), ‘salvation’ (1:5, 9, 10), and ‘grace’ (1:10).

“Therefore — because you have such an awesome and precious salvation — Peter urges his readers to live out their lives with holiness and serious purpose.” (Ralph F Wilson)

Today we will try (in 20 minutes) to unpack this, and more …
