Our greatest purpose

To be a disciple of Jesus in 2024 is indeed a huge challenge. In the book of Exodus, God gave ten commandments to the people of Israel.

Then, in the book of Deuteronomy‬, we read:

“Listen, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.”
(Deuteronomy 6:4-5, NLT)

Then later on, in Mark‬ ‭12:29‭-‬31‬‬:

Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”

When we entered the world, we did so as complete beings — heart, soul, mind and strength (body). And even though we’ve experienced some alteration in some of these areas, (mainly my body) we are still complete beings! We are all unique reflections of God’s glory, and from healthy wholeness we are best able to love others well. Herein lies our greatest purpose as a disciple of Jesus in this season.

This Sunday, let us have some fun unpacking what this means for today.

Only Jesus,
