Let’s spread the Good News
The Gideons International was established in 1899, for Christian men to be strengthened in their walk with the Lord through standing together in faith, serving together, and challenging one another to fulfill their God-given responsibilities in their homes, churches and workplaces.
Believing that God’s Word plants powerful seeds He can use, The Gideons placed the first Bible in a hotel room in 1908, in Montana, USA, and the Bible distribution ministry they are so well known for began.
The 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games presented an opportunity to begin the work in Australia, and Bibles were placed in hotel rooms for that event.
Today, there are more than 260,000 members and many supporters spanning the globe and over the past 110 years more than 2 billion Bible and New Testaments have been placed in hotels, motels, nursing homes, medical and allied health offices, prisons and domestic violence and homeless shelters. Copies of God’s Word are also shared with secondary and tertiary students, emergency service personnel, prisoners, military personal, and anyone else members of The Gideons interact with.
