The LORD saves

As we continue in our series What brings you here? we read in Matthew ch 1 vs 21, “Name the child ‘Jesus’ because he will save his people from their sins.” ‘Jesus’ means ‘The LORD saves’.

In Surf Lifesaving, we rescue people who can’t save themselves in the surf. All humanity needs a Saviour because we cannot rescue ourselves.

It was Jesus’ common practice to release people from difficult situations: some bound by demons, many sick or disabled, even experienced fishermen terrified of a storm they couldn’t out-sail. Some were even dead, from which release seems impossible! And release from the ultimate impossible situation needed the Cross. This is great news. This is indeed the ‘Good News’.

The God who comes close wants to rescue us, and so He is the last person that we should avoid or shrink back from. You don’t need to become a better person before seeking God – He is the key to becoming better.

Only Jesus,
Dony
